The country is currently battling a second wave of coronavirus, and the current situation has been described by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Health Faisal Sultan as equal to June when Pakistan witnessed the peak of the epidemic.
The total number of people infected with the virus in the country is 448,522 out of which 396,591 have recovered while the number of deaths has reached 9,080.
According to official figures, a record 7,993 patients have been cured of the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases to 42,851.
In addition, 2,545 people became infected with the virus in the last 24 hours, while 70 patients died.
It may be recalled that the first case of this global epidemic in the country was reported on February 26, 2020, and its spread reached its peak in June. However, the number of cases decreased from July and continued to improve till September.
In October and especially in November, the epidemic intensified again and the government again imposed a number of restrictions in addition to the closure of educational institutions, while in December the situation is worrying.

The worst-hit province in Pakistan is Sindh, where an additional 1,224 cases have been reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 199,706.
According to official figures, the death toll from the global outbreak in Sindh has risen to 3,237, with 15 more patients dying.
In the last 24 hours, 618 new cases of Corona have come to light in Punjab province, after which the number of victims has risen to 129,291.
However, alarmingly, 39 more patients died due to the epidemic in the province and thus the number of deaths due to the virus in Punjab rose to 3,491.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, another 356 people were infected with the coronavirus, bringing the total to 53,609.
According to official figures, the epidemic killed 13 more patients in the province, bringing the death toll from the virus to 1,502 so far.
In the last 24 hours, 42 cases were reported in Pakistan’s largest province in terms of area, bringing the total to 17,838.
The death toll from the corona virus in Balochistan has not increased and the total death toll remains at 176.
According to official figures, 238 more cases of the epidemic were confirmed in the federal capital Islamabad, bringing the total number of people affected to 35,441.
Three more patients died from corona in the federal capital, bringing the death toll to 381.
According to the official website of Corona, the Corona epidemic in Azad Kashmir claimed another 62 lives, bringing the total number of victims in the valley to 7,833.
Another patient died of the virus in Azad Kashmir, bringing the total death toll to 194.
Five new cases of the epidemic were reported in Gilgit-Baltistan after which the number of affected people here reached 4,804.
However, no further deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours and the total death toll from the epidemic remains at 99.
Coronavirus patients in Pakistan continue to recover and in the last 24 hours, another 7,993 people have been cured.
According to official statistics, after the recovery of these patients, the total number has risen to 396,591.

The most affected provinces in the country are Sindh and Punjab. The total number of infected people in Sindh province is one lakh 99 thousand 706 while in Punjab this number has reached one lakh 29 thousand 291.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 53,609 people have been infected with the coronavirus, while in Balochistan, the number of infected people is 17,838.
In addition, 35,441 people in the federal capital Islamabad, 7,833 in Azad Kashmir, and 4,804 in Gilgit-Baltistan have been affected by the global epidemic.
